An electric FenceFast is a barrier that uses pulsing electricity to discourage animals or people from approaching and touching the boundary of a field. The energizer pushes electricity through the positive fence terminal in brief pulses and a grounding system (a series of metal rods sunk into the soil) pulls excess pulse energy back to the energizer through a negative ground terminal.
Ideally, an animal or person will not complete the circuit through the energizer and the fence, so it does not receive a shock. However, if the animal or person does touch the wire and the ground, the electric pulse will travel from the energizer through the fence and the person to the ground and back to the energizer and the energizer will then deliver a shock.
The Power of Protection: Safeguarding Your Property with Electric Fences
The shock from a touch on an electric Fence can range from barely noticeable to uncomfortable, painful or even lethal depending on the voltage, the length of time the current flows through the victim and the route of the current through the body. The pulsing nature of the current in an electric Fence is safer than continuous supply because it allows the victim to retreat from the source of the power and this can reduce injuries.
A simple electric fence made of a single bare wire can be effective against large-bodied species such as wild boar or sika deer but may not prevent smaller animals from escaping into fields. For this reason, adding a thin nylon net to the electric fence may be an effective solution for some species. The net also helps to limit the size of animals that can get through gaps in the fence and therefore mitigate crop damage.
